Job Purpose

Responsible for defining company-wide underwriting strategies, building standardized operational frameworks, ensuring technical excellence, mentoring the underwriting team, and collaborating with strategic partners to ensure efficient, transparent, and compliant underwriting operations. This role also contributes to product development, enhances customer experience, and strengthens the company’s reputation and competitiveness in the life insurance market. 

Key Accountabilities (1)

1. Underwitting Planning & Oversight
- Develop underwriting strategies aligned with product development, market expansion, and financial capacity.
- Design risk classification frameworks, evaluation standards, and acceptance/rejection policies.
- Review and handle special cases: VIP clients, high-value policies, legal or reputational risks.
- Oversee quality control across the entire underwriting process.
- Analyze risk data and trends to identify early warning signals.
- Resolve complaints and disputes related to underwriting decisions.
- Ensure compliance with legal regulations and ethical standards.

Key Accountabilities (2)

2. Operational Excellence & Process Innovation
- Lead the development and standardization of underwriting manuals, risk classification guides, templates, and workflows.
- Propose and implement system upgrades: digitalization, AI integration, and automation.
- Collaborate with product teams to tailor underwriting processes for new products.
- Work with IT to build decision-support tools and performance dashboards.
- Establish internal audit systems and recommend periodic improvements.
- Represent the company at industry forums and share best practices.

3. Talent Development & Technical Leadership
- Design advanced training programs for underwriters and managers.
- Build competency frameworks, performance evaluation criteria, and career paths.
- Mentor high-potential experts and support leadership development.
- Organize internal knowledge-sharing sessions and update on medical, financial, and tech trends.
- Periodically assess team capabilities and adjust underwriting authority levels.
- Provide technical consultation to legal, product, operations, and customer service teams.

Success Profile - Qualification and Experiences

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medicine, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or related fields.
Minimum 12 years of experience in life insurance underwriting
International certifications such as FALU, CLU, FLMI, ALU.
Strategic thinking, systems mindset, risk analytics, and executive communication.
Proficiency in insurance systems, analytical tools, dashboards, and case management software.
