Expert, Actuary (Techcom Insurance)

Job Purpose

The Senior Actuarial Specialist is responsible for performing actuarial pricing and valuation activities, including assumption setting, model development, reserve calculation, and profitability assessments. With at least 8 years of experience, this role ensures the accuracy, compliance, and financial soundness of the product portfolio, contributes to process enhancements, resolves complex technical issues, and provides guidance and technical support to relevant teams.

Key Accountabilities (1)

1. Product Pricing
- Conduct product pricing and financial projections for new and enhanced life insurance products, ensuring alignment with the company’s risk framework, brand positioning, and business strategy.
- Develop and refine actuarial assumptions (experience studies, lapse, expense, mortality/morbidity, etc.) based on actual experience and market trends.
- Collaborate with Product, Distribution, Risk Management, and other functions throughout product development, assessing impacts on profitability, solvency, and distributable earnings.
- Contribute to improving pricing models, control processes, and documentation standards to enhance efficiency and transparency.
- Resolve technical issues using established actuarial methodologies and best‑practice solutions.

2. Valuation & Reserving
- Perform actuarial valuation and reserve calculations in compliance with regulatory and accounting requirements (IFRS17, RBC, statutory reporting).
- Build, review, and validate valuation models; perform reasonableness checks, movement analyses, and portfolio health assessments.
- Conduct profitability analysis (source of earnings, profit emergence) and recommend assumption updates to improve long‑term financial performance.
- Participate in developing procedures, guidelines, and system enhancements for valuation processes.

3. Risk Management, Compliance & Capability Building
- Ensure all pricing and valuation activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and actuarial professional standards.
- Perform sensitivity tests, scenario analyses, and risk assessments for product portfolios.
- Provide technical coaching, training, and support to actuarial and cross‑functional teams.
- Work with minimal supervision, proactively proposing solutions and driving process improvements.

Success Profile - Qualification and Experiences

Education & Certification
- Bachelor degree in Actuarial Science, Financial Mathematics, Insurance, or Finance. 
- Holds an international actuarial designation such as FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) or FIA (Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries). 
- Minimum 8 years of experience in life/non-life insurance, including: Technical pricing and assumption setting. Regulatory, audit, and reinsurance engagement. Strategic financial advisory to senior management.
