Advisor, Economics and Financial Markets Analysis (40001701)

Job Purpose

The job holder responsible for: 
Serve as a seasoned Economist in guiding, executing, and advising on macroeconomic, financial market, and banking industry analysis to support the bank’s strategic planning, risk management, and business development objectives. 

Key Accountabilities (1)

Assist, directly implement and complete each analysis and forecast project (projects with larger scale, more complex level than each specific task): 

1. Macroeconomic & Financial Market Analysis
- Build and maintain macroeconomic data systems for both domestic and international sources.
- Analyze global economic trends and assess their impact on Vietnam.
- Forecast key macroeconomic indicators (growth, inflation, monetary policy, etc.) to support strategic planning.
- Analyze and forecast financial market variables (interest rates, exchange rates, bond yields, etc.) in the context of economic and policy developments.

2. Banking Sector & Industry Analysis
- Evaluate the operations, financial structures, and performance of domestic and international banks.
- Analyze key economic sectors: supply-demand dynamics, value chains, competitiveness, and policy impacts.
- Forecast sector growth under various economic scenarios and policy environments

Key Accountabilities (2)

3. Quantitative Modeling & Econometrics
- Lead the development and continuous enhancement of econometric and statistical models tailored for macroeconomic and financial market forecasting with high precision.
- Serve as a technical advisor, mentoring internal teams on advanced quantitative modeling techniques, thereby strengthening analytical capabilities and improving the bank’s risk management practices.
- Foster close collaboration with cross-functional analysis teams to integrate economic, financial, and sectoral assessments, delivering coherent and comprehensive evaluations of market conditions.

4. Strategic Advisory & Influence
- Provide expert economic and market insights and strategic advice directly to senior stakeholders including the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO), Board of Management (BOM), and Board of Directors (BOD), ensuring informed decision-making at the highest levels.
- Contribute substantively to the formulation of strategic business plans, risk management frameworks, and the conceptualization and launch of innovative financial products.
- Represent the bank in key external forums, collaborating with regulatory bodies, research institutions, and strategic partners to enhance the bank’s market positioning and compliance landscape.

  • Stay abreast of evolving macroeconomic theories, financial market trends, and regulatory changes to continually refine your analytical framework.
  • Document and communicate research findings through comprehensive reports, presentations, and briefing notes, tailored for diverse audiences within and outside the bank.
  • Support the integration of cutting-edge analytical tools and technologies, promoting data-driven decision-making and fostering a culture of innovation within the team.
  • Demonstrate proactive risk identification and propose mitigation strategies to safeguard the bank's interests amid volatile economic conditions.
  • Encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration to harness diverse expertise, driving effective problem-solving and strategic agility.

Key Relationships - Internal Stakeholders

Engages regularly with functional teams across Corporate & Investment Banking Group (CIBG), Corporate Affairs (CA), Finance, Risk Management, and other relevant divisions to align analysis efforts with business needs and to provide insights that impact multiple areas within the organisation.

Key Relationships - External Stakeholders

State management agencies (SBV, MOF, General Department of Customs, Statistics…); businesses, investors, customer research and analysis companies (when necessary)

Success Profile - Qualification and Experiences

Educational Qualifications:
- Holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution, providing a solid theoretical foundation for advanced economic analysis.

Professional Experience:
- Brings a minimum of 15 years’ extensive experience in macroeconomic, financial market, and banking sector analysis, demonstrating robust expertise in strategic advisory roles.
- Proven track record in delivering actionable economic insights and forecasts that have effectively informed senior management decision-making.
- Demonstrated proficiency with quantitative and econometric modeling tools and programming languages including Stata, R, and Python; familiarity with data visualisation and business intelligence tools is highly advantageous.
- Strong command of English language skills, enabling effective communication in multinational and multilingual settings.

- High-level business financial skills relevant to the finance sector to thoroughly understand and interpret financial statements and market data.
